Honorary Members
Turkish Society for History of Science (TBTK), has granted the honorary membership certificate of the TBTK to the valuable local and foreign scientists who have contributed to the development of the history of science, both with their studies and with the support and incentives they have provided.

Prof. Dr. Erdal İnönü (25 April 1992)
Our first honorary membership was presented to Prof. Dr. Erdal İnönü on April 25, 1992 in reference to his valuable contributions as a scientist and manager for the development of science in Turkey and making it popular with younger generations and his pioneering work in the field of Turkish history of science research.

Prof. Dr. Kazım Çeçen (16 May 1994)
The second honorary membership was given to Kazım Çeçen for his long years of service to the history of Turkish science and technology and for the monumental works he published.

Prof. Dr. Edward S. Kennedy (5 June 1994)
The third honorary membership was presented for the first time to a foreign scientist, Princeton University faculty member Edward S. Kennedy, for his contributions to the history of Islamic science and especially astronomy.

Prof. Dr. Yamada Keiji (8 October 1996)
The fourth honorary membership was presented to Yamada Keiji, one of the IRCJS professors of the history of science for his work on the history of Chinese and Japanese science, technology and medicine, and for his efforts to encourage and develop cooperation between Japanese and Turkish historians of science.

Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar (21 May 2016)
Fifth honorary membership was presented at the meeting held at Dedeman Hotel on May 21, 2016, to Turkish scientist Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry recipient in 2015, with the “Honorary Membership” certificate and a custom-made gold-plated astrolabe.
Following the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kaçar, president of our association, Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar gave a speech on the importance of science, the history of science and idealistic work, and they thanked and appreciated TBTK.
Founding and honorary president of our association Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, in their speech, compared the people who received the Nobel Prize in the world and the countries they belong to and the situation in Turkey, and stated that this award is a great gift for our country. After his speech, Prof. Ihsanoglu presented Prof. Sancar with the “Honorary Member” certificate, and our association president Prof. Kaçar presented Prof. Sancar with a specially made gold-plated astrolabe.
